Notes About Adding Runs
- Blank Fields:
- Please leave any fields blank which do not apply, they will be
ignored and will not appear at all.
- Reserving a Date:
- If you select a hash and date, and leave all other fields blank
(except the time and/or your name may be entered), the entry
will appear on the calendar as plain text (i.e. not as a link).
When you have final information, you can go back and re-enter
the information and it will change into a normal link.
- Hares:
- The two "Hares" fields will format (e.g. italicize) the
hash names; if there are more than 2 hares, you should enter
all but the last one in the leftmost box.
- Maps:
- If you would like to include a map from Mapquest.com, Yahoo.com maps or Google.com
maps, go to one of their web sites using another browser window, input the
intersection or landmark and search the map. Then copy the resulting URL
(that's the Address Section) from that
window and paste it in the box provided in this window. Or, use the
interactive Check
Map link in the blue box on the left of the Hash.org page and input your
address or intersection.
- Line and Paragraph Breaks
- Remember that text you enter will be formatted as HTML, and thus
carriage returns will be ignored. If you want to have a paragraph
break, leave a blank line between the paragraphs. If you want to
force text onto a newline without a paragraph break, end your
line with '<br>' (without the quotes).
- Boldface and Italic
- You can embed arbitrary HTML in your text (please don't go nuts
with this). In particular, you can make text bold by
surrounding it like this: <b>bold</b>. Similarly,
you can make it italic by using <i> and </i>.
- Other Notes:
- The "Other Notes" field will appear with the run description.
Notes to the webmaster should be mailed separately.
- Actions:
- The set of 3 radio buttons at the bottom of the form controls
what is done when you press the "Submit" button.
- Add/Change:
- This is the default choice. This will
add the run to the database, exactly as entered.
If there is already an entry for that hash on that
date, it will be replaced.
- Preview:
- This will format and display the information you give
without adding anything to the database.
If you are satisfied, you can go back and change
the choice to "Add/Change" and submit the form
again to actually add it to the database.
- Delete:
- This will delete any entry for that hash on the date
given. You do not need to supply any information other
than the hash and the date.
Both the "Add/Change" and "Delete" actions require that you supply
the same name that was given when the entry was originally entered,
if one was entered.
- Name and Run Protection:
- If you supply a name in the "Your name" field, this will
act as a simple lock. If no name is supplied, then
there will be no lock and anyone may change or delete
the entry. If you supply a name, then the entry can only
be changed or deleted if the same name is entered again (and
it must be spelled exactly the same, including the same case).
- Password Protection:
- As of November 2007, you must now supply a password. This is
avoid the problem of SPAM being posted. The password is the same
for all runs and hashes, please ask at your local hash before
submitting a run.
- Your Email Address:
- The "Your Email" field is optional, but it is helpful if you
supply it. It will be used to contact you if there are problems
with or questions about the information you submit.
- Changing the Calendar Label
- The label that appears on calendar pages can be changed.
An example might be to announce a Bored Meeting or a special
run such as 850th. More info about this later, for now please
contact the webmaster directly if you want to do this.
- Links to Other Site
- Calendar entries can also be made to point to another site or
page. More info about this later, for now please contact
the webmaster directly if you want to do this.
- Adding Past Hashes
- You will not be able to add or modify any hashes in
past months. If you need to do this, please email the relevant
details to the webmaster and the changes will be made by hand.
If you have any questions, or want to do something that doesn't quite fit here,
please email rtd and
I can ask Quicktool todo it by hand or hack the database to support it.
