Where: Mammoth Lakes, CA
What: 3 days of running, drinking, hiking, biking in the Eastern Sierra Nevada.
Cost: $65 per person.

Back by popular demand, the Orange County Hash House Harriers will again sponsor the 3rd Annual Mammoth Mountain "Yank Your Doodle" Hash, to be held over the July 4th weekend. Last year, we had three outstanding runs that literally left over 100 hashers "breathless". This year the 4th falls on a Friday, so we'll kick things off the night of Thursday, July 3rd. OCH3 will again sponsor three runs, including breathtaking views, volcanoes, earthquakes, very little oxygen (8,000 ft. altitude), lots of beer, food, giveaways, etc.

We'll hash the night of the 3rd, and the afternoons of the 4th and 5th. You can head home or off to other places on Sunday the 6th. We encourage you to take Thursday July 3rd off as a vacation day. The Thursday night run will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will feature the 3rd Annual Mammoth Mountain Mini-Skirt Hash. Either come up on Wednesday night the 2nd, or bright and early on Thursday morning the 3rd. Mammoth Lakes is roughly a 6 hour drive from the LA area.

Accommodations (you have several options):

  1. Hotels - there are several in the area, with a wide range of rates. Keep in mind that this is a very busy and popular weekend and hotels fill up quickly. Call the Mammoth Lakes Visitors Bureau at (800) 367-6572 for a listing of hotels and rates.

  2. Condominiums - We have again arranged with the Mammoth Sierra condos to set aside some condos for rent that can sleep up to 6 in 2 bedrooms and a loft ($170/night) or 8 to 10 ($209/night) in 3 bedrooms and a loft. If you stay a fourth or fifth night in the 2 bedroom and loft, the extra nights are $75/night. If you stay a fourth or fifth night in the 3 bedrooms and loft, the extra nights are $100/night. This is the best value for you if you can team up with other hashers. If Mammoth Sierra fills up, the Rental Agency has access to condos directly across the street from Mammoth Sierra at a complex called Winterset at roughly the same price range. Both complexes are in downtown Mammoth at the corner of Old Mammoth Road and Meridian. (Across from the Von's Market.) You need to make arrangements immediately for you and your group directly with the Mammoth Sierra Condominium group. Their number is (619) 934-2231. When you call, ask for Judy or Leslie and mention that you are with the Orange County Hash House Harriers.

  3. Camping - For those on a budget or for those that want to be outdoors, Mammoth has lots of camping available. Most of the camping areas are around the lakes above town. They are Twin Lakes, Lake George, Lake Maime, and Lake Mary. Call the Visitor's Bureau at (800) 367-6572 to get a listing of the campgrounds and rates (usually around $10 per day).

Miscellaneous Information

Mammoth has numerous mountain biking trails, and plenty of bike rental shops. It also has several lakes for fishing if you are so inclined. There are extensive trails throughout the area that are ideal for day hikes, too.

What You Need To Do:

  1. Fill out the attached form and mail it with your check for $65 (payable to OCHHH) to Pam Smith, 404 Fallingstar, Irvine, CA, 92614. Also, please include a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope.
